Rachel, Jana, Kaisa, Me, and Jessica |
When I was in high school, I served on the seminary council. Seminary was such a great part of my high school life. The environment, strengthening my understanding of the gospel of Jesus Christ, feeling God's love in the middle of the school day, it always gave me such a boost.
When I was on the council my senior year, there were over 2000 students enrolled. There were 12 of us on the council that worked together, 5 boys, 7 girls. We had 2 remarkable advisors, Brother Gubler, and Brother B (Bartholomew). Our purpose was simply to bring others to Christ. Early morning Monday meetings, after school projects, hand-writing birthday cards for the students, morningsides, firesides, speaking assignments, addressing letters, preparing video announcements, assemblies, missionary week and other theme weeks, organizing and participating in service projects in the community, decorating, building structures, making phone calls, asking for prize donations from businesses, coordinating and marketing sales of t-shirts and rings, picking up donuts, cleaning up after events, setting up loads of chairs (2000 is a lot of people to plan for at events)... basically, we spent lots of time together serving, and we all became good friends. Because the time commitment was pretty heavy, we couldn't participate in sports, have jobs, participate in student council, and we also had to commit to being examples of living standards of the church- that meant no steady dating (boyfriends/girlfriends). Life was always busy, it was a blessing to have so much time devoted to service and sacrifice. That lifestyle as a high school student was absolutely amazing and strengthened my testimony in the Savior.
